Paul Oakenfold

One of the true legends of electronic music, Paul Mark Oakenfold was born on 30th of August 1963 in London, England. For over 3 decades Paul has been a pioneer who has shaped & elevated the genre and remains a leading figure in electronic music. Paul’s DJing career bagan in the late 70s spinning Funk in Covent Garden. Not what some might have expected from one of Trances preeminent masters. But he knew then music would be his life.

In the 80’s he had taken two trips that changed his life. He spent several months in New York working A&R man for the famed Champion Records signing DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, as well as Salt-n-Pepa. He also promoted for the Beastie Boys and Run D.M.C in Britain. In 1987 he took a trip the White Isle of Ibiza where he discovered the Balearic music which buzzed through the air. He would return to Ibiza often to reside at super clubs Amnesia and Pacha. Oakenfold was also the first resident DJ of Ministry Of Sound in London as they were opening up. His residency at Cream in Liverpool however was what brought Paul global respect.

The ground breaking Perfecto label was founded by Paul in 1988 and became integral to the birth of trance music through the massive international tracks ‘Not Over Yet’, ‘Bullet In The Gun’ and ‘Southern Sun’. Since then the label has gone on to produce countless high profile releases and remixes and is still a benchmark that labels measure up to. Perfecto’s most notable release was the recent double album ‘Perfecto Las Vegas’ which held the #1 spot on the US iTunes dance chart for several weeks. This release confirmed Oakenfold’s stronghold as an International DJ power player achieving the highest selling DJ compilation ever released in US history – with over half a million sales.

Paul has also been responsible for creating some of the most breathtaking film scores and cues for a long list of Hollywood blockbusters including The Bourne Identity, Matrix Reloaded, Shrek 2, Swordfish and Collateral.
