Here at NTM we are religious followers of Armin, ASOT and ASOT’s annual top 20. But in the past 2 years, I’ve strongly disliked the top 20 ASOT tracks selected. I feel that people are choosing Armin’s productions just because it’s an Armin track. I mean really, Tuvan topped the list in 2009….seriously? And 6 songs from Mirage made it into the 2010 list? They should have just renamed the Top 20 of 2010 into “Mirage Circlejerk”.
So we had a discussion amongst ourselves here at NTM and named our own Top 10 Trance Tracks of 2011 list. You’ll definitely see our favouritism for different styles here (vocal trance, tech trance and anthem trance). So here it is!

It’s a brilliant list, and WAY too hard to figure out who is most deserving to be number 1. So I’m glad you guys did it for me.
Personally, I would’ve expected Shogun’s “Skyfire” to be higher up the list. But overall, not a bad year of trance!!!

Highly agree it’s just so difficult to name the top spot. Lot’s of good tracks this year and we may even have jumped the gun, as there’s some banging stuff coming out lately.
Surprised Alesso’s pressure mix didn’t make it here, or vengeance vengeance. But the list itself is excellent. I agree there have been so many major tracks this year it is hard to narrow it to such a small list
I’m not sure that Alesso’s pressure mix is “trancy” enough to be on there. It falls more under the category of house music – hence it’s appearance in MOS 2012 Annual.
But the Pressure/Promises mash-up by Armin van Buuren could very well be on that list. And speaking of Promises, how is that not on the list?
It makes me a sad panda :(
Promises is actually our #1 track of the year lol. The pressure/promises mash was amazing to hear live! one of our favs for sure.

I have just stumbled across your website and I am very impressed. Being on the wrong side of 40 and a relatively new convert to trance since seeing A&B in Tokyo this October, your Trance for Dummies approach is both educational and kind. The 2011 Top 10 list is also spot on although I agree with the ubiquity of Armin….

I do agree that “Promises” z No.1 but most of these top 10 are within 2011 top 20 voted by ASOT listeners,so ur not away of Armin’s style..BTW,,where is “You belong to me-Babina” in the list!!!
This is true – 8 of the songs in our top 10 are in ASOT’s top 20 this year. My gripe was more to do with people voting tracks that were produced by Armin, simply because it’s Armin.
